美國一個公衛組織表示，根據最新研究，市售早餐麥片、點心棒等產品，驗出超標的除草劑「嘉磷塞」（glyphosate），其中包含許多知名廠牌。
CNN報導，公衛組織「環境工作團」（Environmental Working Group,EWG）在28個燕麥製品樣本裡發現26個含嘉磷塞，超出兒童攝取的安全份量。嘉磷塞是除草劑品牌「農達」（Roundup，又稱年年春）中的主成分。根據該組織8月公布的檢驗報告，當時也有高達30多種燕麥食品含嘉磷塞。
EWG檢驗報告指出，知名大廠Honey Nut Cheerios、美國桂格的燕麥片皆檢出嘉磷塞，長久食用恐有致癌疑慮。EWG的首席科學家Alexis Temkin教授補充說明，若從小就接觸到這些有致癌疑慮的除草劑，對幼童的潛在健康的危害比對大人還嚴重。
對此，通用磨坊與桂格的發言人均表示，他們的食品都很安全，符合美國環境保護署（EPA）所訂的嚴格食安標準，請消費者安心。
其實國際間對嘉磷塞的致癌性意見不一，因此多將其致癌風險評為「很可能致癌」， EWG則呼籲政府應訂出更嚴格嘉磷塞含量安全標準，以保障消費者的健康。
